Sims 3 Expansion Pack Release Date - June 2010

Since the release of the first Sims 3 expansion pack, World Adventures, we’ve all been eagerly awaiting news of the next one.

The new Sims 3 expansion pack came into the world in the form of a brief-yet-satisfying trailer, which you can check out on GameTrailers.com. Fans of Rise Against may recognize the background music in the Sims 3 Ambitions trailer as the band’s single “Savior.”

The Sims 3 Ambitions - Careers

The alliteration-filled Sims 3 Ambitions trailer promises that you can be a “fearless firefighter,” “fiesty fashionista,” “infamous inventor,” “defiant detective,” or “shameless sculptor” with seconds-long clips of each, cluing us in that the game will feature at least five careers. The trailer ends with a quick montage, providing quick glimpses of other career offerings in the latest Sims 3 expansion pack.

A woman in a beige jumpsuit gives off Ghostbusters vibes as she sucks up a malevolent spirit, an architect takes measurements, and a buff tattoo artist shows off his wares. Hopefully the Sims 3 Ambitions won’t limit us to these eight career choices, since we’d have to wonder what happened to traditional options like the criminal, culinary and law enforcement career tracks.

Gameplay

A GameSpot interview with the new Sims 3 expansion pack’s associate producer, Grant Rodiek, gives hints at some of the game’s mechanics. Rodiek states that “each career presents a unique experience.” For example, firefighter Sims will have to combat a variety of dangerous situations to save their fellow Sims, ranging from small fires to earthquakes. Other careers will allow players to actively manipulate their town’s appearance. Architects can be hired to revamp community and residential lots to their liking, while stylists will be hired to vamp up their fellow Sims’ appearances.

If more of the classic careers make it into The Sims 3 Ambitions, veteran players might finally get a chance to see what really happens when they run a household with one spouse in the criminal career track and the other in the law enforcement career track.

Sims 3 Expansion Pack - General Features

In addition to a major gameplay hook, most past Sims expansion packs have also offered new features to the general Sims experience. This new Sims 3 expansion pack lets you add and remove community and residential lots, as well as add decorative touches like landscaping elements. Sims 2 veterans should remember this feature and will likely be glad to see it finally make its way to The Sims 3. Additionally, buy and build modes will undergo some minor revisions. Builders can change the pitch of individual roof sections and purchase a handful of new objects. Tattoos add a new element of character customization, and it seems like they’ll offer just as much detail as the current hairstyling and make-up features. We can also assume the new Sims 3 expansion pack will offer new skills as well, since Rodiek mentions a “inventing skill” in his interview.

The Sims 3 Ambitions has a tenative release date of June 1, 2010.
