iPhone Apps Review: Leaf Trombone: World Stages iPhone App Review

Leaf Trombone: World Stage’s Game Modes (3 out of 5)
_
Leaf Trombone is a full-featured game app for the iPhone that not only lets you play a musical instrument on your iPhone, but also allows you to become one member of the three-person panel who will judge, rate and comment on Leaf Trombone users’ performances.
Playing Leaf Trombone can be done in two modes - touch and wind. In Touch Mode, all you need to do is tap marked portions of the leaf to produce short and long notes. The sound utilizes your iPhone 3G’s built-in microphone. While playing Leaf Trombone, you can shift between keys by tapping the plus and minus signs on your iPhone’s screen. The game lets you adjust various settings that include changing the base key and the level of impact on your finger’s motion. How the iPhone reacts to your finger’s motion would determine the pitch produced by the Leaf Trombone.
In Wind Mode, aside from tapping on the market leaves you need to tap on the leaf while blowing air into your iPhone’s mic to play the music. You must tap the correct marked places on the leaf as quickly and consistently possible for you to make a good sound.
Leaf Trombone: World Stages Game Levels (3 out of 5)
Leaf Trombone allows you to enjoy the game in three ways - by playing a song, becoming a judge in World Stage or via free play. When playing a song, 3D-rendered leaves will float on the screen. The changing appearance of the leaves will indicate if you are playing the Leaf Trombone properly. During gameplay the app will play background music to prep you. In free play, you can play poorly without feeling ashamed. Free Play also removes the 3D background, including the 3D leaves. All you do is play Leaf Trombone for as long you want.
Some real fun begins if you join the World Stages as a judge. Through online multi-gaming you get to watch Leaf Trombone performers compete with each other in a battle for domination. No, I’m just kidding. World Stages let you judge, comment and even select one participant to win. To join the World Stage, you just need to create an account and begin playing the game/app. For additional fun, you can also use emoticons.
